Another great job of packaging from the folks at Unisteer. Parts are all shrink wrapped to cardboard - No chance of losing during shipping.

You have to removed the dash and will need a TORX T-20 and T-25 wrench to remove the two different size fasteners.

You'll have to unplug the wiring going to the two 12 volt power outlets on dash. We removed the battery in order to get to the connections from back side.

Once all the fasteners are out and power outlet wires disconnected, we removed the dash. Take the driver's side out first and put it back in last.

You have to unbolt the lower stock steering shaft from the rack and pinion unit, so we remove the front bumper and grill to facilitate access.

Removing the steering wheel required the tilt mechanism to be unbolted on the upper end.

Once the steering wheel is removed you can pull the stock steering shaft straight up through the steering column hole.

Unisteer has alignment marks painted onto steering gear box and steering shaft. During assembly, make sure that these marks are aligned with each other. This will ensure proper "phase" of the steering shaft u-joints and prevent any binding.

Install new lower steering shaft through firewall and "loosely" bolt to rack and pinion unit.

Laying out the holes to be drilled for the steering unit proved to be the hardest part of the installation. There just isn't much room to work under the dash! Working in tight quarters and trying to "mock up" the correct position of the unit on the frame bracket required all available hands. Therefore, we didn't get any pics of this step. We recommend having a long, skinny paint stick to mark hole positions.

Once the unit is bolted in place, connect the upper and lower shafts. Note paint alignment marks.

Route wiring harness through firewall and to indicator light.

The indicator light requires a 1/2" diamter hole for installation. We drilled ours just to the left of the speedometer.

Wiring requires finding "switched power". We used the top lug on the factory electrical block just to the right of battery. Green wires run to steering unit and indicator light.

After the dash is re-installed, you are ready to enjoy your power assist steering. Literally, you can turn the wheels on concrete with just one finger!

  • Fast and easy to install.
  • Everything is included to have a bolt-in installation.
  • Basic hand tools are all that is needed.
  • Electra Steer connects to your 12-volt power source.
